Public Outreach

Rock Island County participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) so that residents can by flood insurance from FEMA. In an effort to help reduce those flood insurance premiums, we also participate in the Community Rating System (CRS).  The CRS program requires us  to document portions of our ordinance that are more restrictive than the NFIP, how we enforce the code and ways that we perform outreach outreach to our residents.  Participating in the CRS program gives resident s in unincorporated Rock Island County a 30% discount on your flood insurance rates from FEMA. To better serve our community we work with other local jurisdictions that also participate in the CRS program and partnering with local organizations to help get information out to residents.

In 2023 we started creating a Program for Public Information (PPI) that helps local communities collaborate and combine resources to get this information out to the public. Unincorporated Rock Island County, the City of Moline and the City of Davenport all currently participate in the CRS program.  We have been collaborating for a year to design our PPI. One the PPI is formulated into a written document and adopting by our Boards or Councils, we expect to be able to get more credit in our area of public outreach as it relates to the CRS program. In the meantime have been working on outreach projects and have been implementing them. Here is a list of those projects:
